Pride Youth Services, Inc ., works closely with the Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) in achieving its goals to “expand access to coverage under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (MHBE) Connector Entity program”. PYS Inc., provides ACA-related outreach and health literacy support to underrepresented and disproportionately uninsured populations, specifically for the African-American during each annual open enrollment period. To date, our outreach efforts have reached over 3,500 African-American residents of Montgomery County, MD.
Pride Youth Services, Inc. focus primarily on the African-American populations in Montgomery County MD, since historically, this population has been plagued with the highest health disparities than many other racial and ethnic groups. Also, in the past, many in the African-American community have been denied health insurance coverage due to pre-existing conditions.
The outreach services provided by Pride Youth Services, Inc. include:
- Better prepare the underrepresented and disproportionately uninsured in the African-American communities throughout Montgomery County to gain a clear understanding of Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) during the annual open enrollment period;
- Increase health literacy and the understanding of the benefits of being covered and the associated preventive services, medical care, and other provisions that could be obtained while encouraging members within the African-American community to become enrolled.
