Adolescent Female Forum to Inspire, Respect & Motivate (AFFIRM) & Adolescent Male Empowerment Network (AMEN) Group Facilitator


Pride Youth Services (PYS) Inc. is a non-profit, community-based organization. The organization’s mission is to positively influence and improve African American youth’s social, emotional, and cognitive development.


The AFFIRM (works with female students) & AMEN (works with male students) group facilitators will provide weekly group sessions to students who attend the following Baltimore City High Schools (Frederick Douglass, Patterson, Forest Park, and Reginald F. Lewis). There will also be an opportunity to provide similar groups at Wilde Lake Middle & High School in Columbia, MD, and Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD.


  • Work 1- 5 hours per week during the daily school lunch hours (approximately 11:30 am – 12:45 pm or 1:00 pm – 2:15 pm) or immediately after school (approximately 3 pm). These groups will begin during the summer months (July 9, 2024 – August 8, 2024) as well as during the 2024-2025 school year;
  • Preparing and familiarizing yourself with all AFFIRM and/or AMEN group materials prior to the start of each session;
  • Facilitating or co-facilitating AFFIRM or AMEN group sessions. Leading the group sessions will include initiating, facilitating, and moderating the dialogue among the group session attendees;
  • Ensure that prior to the start of each group session, the place where the group(s) will take place is ready to receive the group participants and the room is clean after each group session;
  • Make preparations to ensure that the weekly group meal(s) are ready for each group session (this includes picking up the food if required or making sure the food is ordered in a timely matter);
  • Assist in the planning, coordinating, and participating of all scheduled AFFIRM &/or AMEN group activities (field trips, awards ceremony). This includes overseeing the transportation arrangements and logistics for these activities (during the school year only);
  • Completing administrative tasks including attendance for all group sessions, any notable incidences which occurred during group sessions (threats of bodily harm to oneself or others), and overseeing the delivery of pre and post-surveys or evaluations;
  • Organize and facilitate meetings with school staff and administrators (as needed);
  • Maintain regular contact with the students involved in the AFFIRM &/or AMEN program (as well as their parents) as indicated;

Academic Qualifications and Experience / Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in: social work, education, psychology, counseling, or a related field;
  • Experience in facilitating group sessions working with high school-aged students (preferred);
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in working within a minority community & working with youth from underserved communities;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation/automobile to travel to AFFIRM and AMEN school sites;
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check

Financial Compensation

The AFFIRM or AMEN group facilitators are paid at a rate of $75-$100 per group session (based upon group facilitating experience) and $20.00 per hour for related administrative functions (preparing for weekly AFFIRM & AMEN group sessions, planning and attending scheduled field trips (as indicated), awards ceremonies, and staff meetings).
